Diagnostic gastroscopy - Eosinophilic esophagitis

Presentation of a diagnostic gastroscopy on a 28-year-old man with upper abdominal pain. The diagnosis is eosinophilic esophagitis.

 

Take home messages:

Endoscopic appearance of eosinophilic esophagitis includes linear furrows, rings, and white exsudates.

Eosinophilic esophagitis should be distinguished from proton pump inhibitor-responsive esophageal infiltration.

The histological diagnosis includes eosinophilic infiltration > 15 per high-power field.
